I enjoy that my students like to ask questions. Although I want to foster the love of questioning, I also want to teach the childern how to stay on topic. Sometimes a question comes up that I really don't know the exact answer to. I went to a professional development day and the presenter used a Parking Lot. Any question that couldn't be answered at the time or she didn't know the answer to, went on a sticky note and was Parked in the Parking Lot! I loved the idea and created my own. Sometimes the questions are answered in another lesson and sometimes we "research" the questions when we have a few extra minutes or as a transition between activities. I also started using them as a way to challenge some of my students. When I was in an intervention group, I would let other students pick a question to research. If they found the correct answer they would share it with the class and explain how they found the answer. We called it "Our Lingering Questions". (Another rich word I was able to introduce. :-)

New Project
Welcome to the Polka Dot Patch! I have become obsessed with Polka Dots after a friend posted a few items on Pinteres. The Where Am I Board was made with magnetic paint on foam board. I painted small round magnets and numbered them so I can use it year after year. And of course....Polka Dot ribbon! :)
Here We Go.....
Welcome to Adventures in 2nd Grade! My notebooks and teaching journals are exploding so I thought it was about time I enter the digital age. I am excited to share my ideas, stories, and adventures as I enter my fifth year teaching! This is the first summer that I haven't worked a second job so I have had a lot of time to think about my room for this upcoming year. Pinterest has taken over my free time and I am so excited to see what other teachers find useful or just plain fun. Although I have read many posts and blogs that I love, I am trying to find my place with it all. So here we go...time to go on my next adventure!
